We are currently looking for an entry-level Concrete Technician to join our team. The successful candidate must have excellent problem solving and communication skills, as well as a strong work ethic. Previous experience in the concrete industry is a plus but not required. Assists crews in the maintenance and repair of streets, sidewalks, driveways, alleys, drainage and asphalt repairs. Must have the ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to communicate with the general public and crew members.
Works with crews performing construction and maintenance activities for streets, sidewalks, driveways, alleys and drainage and asphalt repairs. Follows all of the safety rules and regulations that are observed on the job site. Cuts lumber and sets forms; cuts, lays and ties rebar using steel cutter and rebar ties.
Assists with preparation of concrete base including setting wood forms and positioning steel; measure and pour concrete; finish concrete; remove wooden forms and backfill and clean site.
Mixes concrete in cement mixer; fills wheelbarrow and pushes to box or pouring site; pours concrete; when making boxes, fills wheelbarrow with blocks or bricks and delivers to finisher.
Checks truck; obtains supplies, equipment, and materials; loads truck with bricks, blocks, lumber, mortar, generator, wheelbarrow, sand, etc. Cleans assigned equipment and related parts daily, as required.
Drives to the job site and prepares for work; sets up cones and signs to warn traffic.
Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Ability to operate machinery and equipment including cement mixer, skill saw, and miscellaneous hand tools. Ability to build forms, form box tops, and pour slabs, driveways, curbs, and sidewalks. Ability to lay brick and block and finish concrete. Ability to get along appropriately with co-workers and the public.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
Overall Position Strength Demands Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
