Construction Inspector

Mobile, AL, USA | Civil Engineering | Hourly | Full Time Position Overview

Thompson Engineering is seeking experienced Construction Inspectors to provide on-site inspection and quality assurance for a major construction project at Holt Lock and Dam. Each inspector will work a 10-hour shift, five days per week, ensuring continuous coverage during the construction period. For a period of approximately two months, at the end of the project, each inspector will work a 10-hour shift, seven days per week.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform frequent and recurring inspections of construction activities, including walking, climbing, stooping, and bending at various elevations and uneven terrain.
  • Review contractor's quality management and control procedures and report findings.
  • Examine submittals and provide recommendations regarding acceptability.
  • Identify and document contract and construction deficiencies; recommend corrective actions.
  • Review project issues, RFIs, requests for equitable adjustments, and claims; provide recommendations with supporting documentation.
  • Interpret drawings and specifications; verify compliance with contract requirements.
  • Monitor contractor's records of work accomplished and materials used.
  • Assess project plans for practicability and material availability.
  • Utilize Resident Management System (RMS) for reporting and documentation.
  • Attend project meetings and support pre-award BCOES and design package reviews.
  • Holiday, weekend, and night work may be required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a construction inspector on complex, multimillion-dollar projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise in:
    • Structural concrete construction and repair
    • Core drilling of concrete structures
    • Grout injection for crack repair
    • Installation of internal water stop
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and RMS.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Additional Requirements

  • Must provide own vehicle for site travel.
  • Must be able to work two shifts (one inspector per shift).
  • U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
