Job Description

The Direct Support Professional is responsible for a variety of duties that support clients in their home as well as out in the community. These duties, depending on the program the client is on, include:

• Assisting clients with daily personal tasks, including bathing and dressing
• Completing housekeeping tasks such as vacuuming, washing dishes and tidying
• Helping plan client appointments and organize a schedule
• Organizing with transportation arrangements to appointments
• Shopping for groceries and preparing meals that meet specific client dietary needs
• Encouraging client engagement in social networks and communities
• Meet with clients, one on one, in their homes on a regularly scheduled basis
• Overnight assistance and supervision provided in the client’s own home
• Support clients through creative, thoughtful, problem-solving
• Understand and work to follow through with support plan goals
• Timely completion of documentation of activities and progress as directed by supervisor
• Clear and professional communication with clients, Field Coordinators, and members of the support team

Qualifications and Skills:

• 18 years of age or older
• Valid Minnesota Driver’s License with acceptable record (non-driving roles also available).
• Ability to pass DHS background study.
• Passion for serving our clients.
• Commitment to promoting diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion with focus on culturally responsive practice, internal self-awareness, and reflection
• Attention to detail, especially when adhering to specific protocols and rules while carefully following instructions to care for the needs of the client
• Integrity to ensure clients feel safe and comfortable when tending to personal activities such as helping them bathe
• Trustworthiness and dependability so clients and their families feel comfortable relying on them
• Interpersonal skills when working with clients, including having compassion and being sensitive to their emotional needs when they are in extreme distress or pain
• Physical stamina when performing tasks such as lifting or turning their clients
