Job Summary

The Fiber Splicer is responsible for the installation of new cable lines, both underground and on utility poles, and performs maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repair.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of telecommunications/CATV industry, preferred.

Tasks Required by a Fiber Splicer:

• Utilize Fusion Splicer to splice Loose Tube & Ribbon fiber cable.
• Prep/Splice single-mode (SM) and multi-mode (MM) optical fiber cable.
• Troubleshooting of fiber utilizing an OTDR.
• Proper record keeping and be able to review cable records as necessary.
• Maintain equipment and vehicle to a high standard.
• Work indoors and outdoors as needed.
• Be able to iterate to the project/construction managers detailed accounts of field activity, both verbal and written.
• Coordinate with tech ops managers to verify and perform work as directed.
• Night work as needed for things like node splits.

Knowledge required by a Fiber Splicer:

• Knowledge of transmission and CATV telecommunications systems.
• Public Safety — Knowledge of keeping work area safe to the public.
• Knowledge of optical splicing equipment like a cleaver, splicer and bucket truck

Working Conditions:

• Field environment – exposure to extreme heat or cold is likely.
• On-call rotation.
