Job Summary

This position exists to supervise, lead and direct activities for the Environmental Review Unit to assure that the agency's environmental review responsibilities under the Minnesota Environmental Policy Act are carried out in an effective, timely and professional manner.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

1) One year of supervisory experience in environmental protection/pollution control,

OR

2) Two years of advanced professional experience in environmental protection/pollution control. Examples for internal candidates - (Environmental Specialist 4, Planner Principal, Hydrologist 2, Engineer 2 Graduate, Research Scientist 2, or related classes).

OR

3) Three years of environmental experience performing work equivalent to an Environmental Specialist 3 level or senior level work directing, designing AND developing criteria for environmental review and/or environmental programs.

OR

4) Equivalent combination of the above.

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas including F-1 STEM OPT extensions.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulatory frameworks and their applicability to the environmental review process.

Knowledge of the local, state, and federal environmental review structure, policies and procedures.

Accomplished project management skills to guide and direct a number of complex compliance and enforcement environmental review processes while supporting staff.

Problem solving laterally and vertically to determine appropriate actions.

Accomplished leadership and management skills to effectively coach, train and lead staff.

Communication/writing skills sufficient to clearly and tactfully communicate in a manner appropriated for the intended audience.

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small equipment. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.

Additional Requirements

Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position. Employees who may drive for state business will need their driver's license checked prior to operating a state vehicle.
